No planning for modular homes in gardens

The government missed its social and affordable housing targets again last year.

In one category, 779 affordable homes were delivered last year from a target of about 2,000.

Mayo County Council met it target of delivering its 154 such dwellings, however, the number of affordable homes was very low.

Minister of State for Planning and Local Government , John Cummins  is at present progressing the idea of allowing free standing detached modular homes to be erected behind a house, without requiring planning permission.

The government believes that this type of development will in part address the present housing shortage.

The Fine Gael Minister has been speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley about progress to date on exempting modular builds in the back garden of homes….
