A Mayo person with a severe eating disorder at present is being denied inpatient treatment for her condition, because there are no public beds available.

However, if the patient or her family could afford the 77,000 euro for a private bed for the same condition than they could get the inpatient treatment urgently required.

That’s according to Mayo Sinn Fein deputy Rose Conway Walsh.

The deputy raised the lack of inpatient beds in public hospitals at present for patients with eating disorders in the Dail last week and demanded that the government deliver on it’s own promises on the issue.

Deputy Conway Walsh says she was angered this morning listening to local Fine Gael MEP Maria Walsh on Morning Edition calling for support for eating order conditions in the EU Mental Health Strategy  – when the  reality on the ground locally is that the services needed to address the problem are not available….

Deputy Conway Walsh has been speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley…
