Cabinet will hear today how Ireland’s suicide rate has fallen by a quarter in the past 20 years.
The Minister with responsibility for mental health Mary Butler will outline how provisional figures for 2023 recorded 302 deaths by suicide, the lowest annual figure since the year 2000.
However that number is expected to rise when coroner investigations are completed.
Ministers will also hear how a recent public consultation on a new national suicide reduction policy received over 1,800 submissions, most from the general public.
