With many senior club teams in Mayo still on the lookout for a manager for 2025, one of the county’s top sides have made an internal appointment.
Kevin Filan has been announced as the manager for the Castlebar Mitchels senior footballers for next season.
He most recently managed the club’s second senior side which has held its own in the intermediate grade for the past number of years, and even made the championship quarter final last season.
Filan has also guided the club to underage success, including the U21 A Championship this time last year.
Castlebar Mitchels were previously managed by two other former players – Barry Moran and Neil Lydon.
They stepped down last month after three years in the role, having lost the quarter final to eventual county champions Ballina Stephenites in September – 0-8 0-7.
It’s the second internal appointment announced by a senior club in recent days, with Ray Dempsey returning to Knockmore next year as bainisteoir.
