Concerns have been raised by boxing clubs locally over the Irish athletic boxing association's decision for only 8 boxers from a potential selection of 23 boxers were selected to travel to the world boxing championships in Montenegro this month.
There is a team of 12 Irish boxers, 4 of them from Connaught, who have chosen to attend the championships in Montenegro and box under the IBA neutral flag as guests of the International Boxing Association.
The International Boxing Association have offered to pay for the full teams attendance.
The 12 Irish boxers have now been threatened with sanction and being suspended by the IABA if they compete under the neutral flag.
Midwest Radio Sport have contacted the IABA for a comment on the matter and are awaiting a response.
