In handball, the World Wallball Championships wrap up in Limerick today as the elite players from across the world vie for major honours.
Some competitions drew to a conclusion yesterday.
George Miller of Swinford captured Mayo’s first medal when he defeated Down’s Brian Havern in the Men’s Over 60 Plate Final.
Newport’s Ian McLoughlin medaled in the Men’s A Doubles Plate with his Moycullen partner Seamus Conneely, followed up by Chris Gavaghan of Swinford and Shane Heraty of Aughagower who brought home the Men’s B Doubles Plate.
Michael Corley of Belcarra teamed up with Michael Lang of Tourmakeady in the Over 50s Doubles Plate but unfortunately they came up just short in the final, losing on a scoreline of 16-21.
Today’s Mayo attention will focus on Belcarra woman Cuileann Bourke, who is contesting both the Ladies A Singles and Ladies A Doubles Final.
Mayo are also in Men’s Over 40s Final action, where Swinford’s Ollie Cassidy pairs up with Claremorris’ Dessie Keegan.
The finals are likely to attract a full house to the University of Limerick Sports Arena.
The two showcase events will see USA superstars Naz Martson and Timbo Gonzalez battle for the Men’s Open title, while the Ladies Open Final is an all-Irish affair, with Roscommon’s Fiona Tully seeking to dethrone reigning champion Martina McMahon from Limerick.
Cuileann Bourke is scheduled to be in action from 12:00pm on Court 1 in the Ladies A Final against Tyrone’s Caitlin Conway, and again at 4:30pm in the Doubles Final where she teams up with Armagh’s Cailíosa Ní Dhúill yo take on formidable American duo Shena Brown and Samantha Torres.
Dessie Keegan and Ollie Cassidy are scheduled to be on Court 1 at 3:00pm in their Over 40s Doubles Final against Kerry’s Dominick Lynch and Armagh’s James Doyle.
All the action can be followed on TG4 Sport YouTube and GAA Handball social media.
