It was a disappointing day for Belmullet’s Sinead Diver in the Women’s Marathon at the Paris Olympics.
The Corclough West native was forced to withdraw from the race inside the opening five minutes.
This was due to reported bilateral cramping in both quads.
She received a DNF (Did Not Finish) as a result.
Sinead is the Australian record holder in Olympic marathon running having finished 10th in the finals in Tokyo.
That was the best Olympic finish by an Australian woman in more than 30 years.
Fionnuala McCormack represented Team Ireland in the race and finished 28th.
The Wicklow native is the first Irish woman to compete in five Olympic games and received her third consecutive top 30 finish.
