The Mayo Masters lost out to Sligo yesterday in the final round of the All Ireland Masters Championship.
A strong first half from Sligo put them into a commanding position at half time in Swinford, with Mayo in serious need of an early second half revival.
Mayo started to gather momentum early in the second period, with a comeback indeed a possibility, before Sligo scored the game’s only goal.
A long ball goalward was flicked to the net by Tourlestrane’s John Marren, which sent Sligo on their way to victory.
Mayo had chances late on to put the pressure on Sligo, but captain and goalkeeper Darren Kearns made a vital save when Kilmeena manager John Reilly’s drilled effort was heading for the bottom corner.
