It's a big weekend for Mayo handballers on national stage in the small alley championships. Across all grades, Mayo is contesting 10 All-Ireland semi-finals. Clodagh McManamon & Maria Burke are already through to the Ladies Intermediate Doubles Final. Following yesterday's action, three more Mayo pairings are through to All-Ireland finals next weekend, with Vinny Moran & Dessie Keegan in Masters, Tom Sweeney & John Coyne in Emerald Masters, and Séamus Hughes & Joe Cummins in Diamond Masters B all successfully negotiating their semi-final hurdles in Croke Park. Hard luck to Tom Malone & Martin McAndrew who fell to Clare opposition. Today, the Gilmartin brothers from Bofield are first up in the Junior B Doubles semi-final, followed later in the day by Shane Heraty & Mark MacNally in Over-35 Doubles and Niall Joyce & Ollie Cassidy in Intermediate. Pride of place goes to our juveniles with talented Newport boys Seán Nevin & Feidhlim Guilfoyle contesting the U-14 All-Ireland semi-final, while at U-17 level it's a big day for the Belcarra club who have the distinction of producing this year's Connacht champions in both Girls and Boys competition, with Shauna Hallinan and Tiernan Brady carrying Mayo's hopes in the All-Ireland series. So best of luck to all, in what is a very special year for the GAA Handball Association, celebrating its centenary this year.
