Gary Boylan has announced his retirement from football.
The Belmullet man has been forced to take the decision as he continues to battle a devastating knee injury.
He spent his career professionally with Sligo Rovers, Galway United, Cork City and Finn Harps in the League of Ireland.
In a statement on his social media today, Gary wrote:
“With a heavy heart I’ve decided to announce my retirement from professional football.
“Something I didn’t think I would be saying this early in my career but after an ongoing battle with a knee injury it’s made the decision easier.
“8 unbelievable seasons with plenty of ups and downs have been nothing but an incredible experience.
“I would like to thank Sligo Rovers, Cork City, Finn Harps and Galway United for the opportunity to put on the jersey.
“Also my boyhood club Erris United where it all started.
“Have met some special people along the way and made some great friends.
“A journey I won’t forget anytime soon.
“Thank you football,
“You’ll be missed.
“Gaz.”
