Mayo GAA are saddened to hear of the passing of Bertie McHugh RIP Brookhill, Claremorris.
Predeceased by his parents Tom and Delia, infant son Bernard, brothers John Peter, Tommy, Mick, Paddy and Jimmy, sisters Mary, Ita and Carmel.
Bertie will be sadly missed by his family, his loving wife Teresa, daughter Mary, sons TJ, Danny, Joe and John. Son-in-law Frank, daughters-in-law Catherine and Emily, Joe's fiancée Mara, John's fiancée Louise, grandchildren Dylan, Dayna, Ella, Charlie, Isobel, Erienne, Conán, Dwayne, Kalel and Thea, sister Peggy, nieces, nephews neighbours and his wide circle of friends.
He was a lifelong supporter of Mayo GAA and rarely missed a game. Bertie's son Danny is the current Chairperson of Garrymore. Bertie was also former president of Mayo GAA.
Bertie, was very highly regarded within Garrymore GAA and throughout the county. He held leading positions as part of management teams, administration and community improvement projects within the locality. Bertie started off the Exiles Cup, a competition which ran from the 1960s to recent years bringing teams right across the province each year. Bertie managed Garrymore for a number of years and won the Intermediate Championship in 1969.
