Sligo GAA has ratified the appointment of Stephen Sheil as manager of the Sligo senior hurling team.

Sheil has been appointed on a two year term with an option for a possible third subject to review.

He played senior inter county hurling in his playing days with Carlow.

This comes as interesting news as last Friday he was listed as assistant head coach in Ray Larkin and Brian Finn’s Mayo senior hurling management team.

The lead coach of the backroom team is former Roscommon senior manager Seamus Qualter.

Qualter came into the Roscommon manager’s job midway through this year’s league and departed at the end of the season.

Ballyhaunis goalkeeper Donal O’Brien is in as assistant coach.

The former Tipperary intermediate and Mayo senior player, Donal has developed his coaching experience thorough the underage ranks in Mayo.

Finally, Bernard Jackman has been appointed as preparation manager.

The former Connacht, Leinster and Ireland rugby player will work with Sligo on physical and mental preparation on a part time basis.
