Yesterday afternoon, news broke on Midwest Radio Sport of Mayo LGFA’s proposed resolution to determine who would finish top of Group B of the Intermediate Football Championship.
Louisburgh and MacHale Rovers drew 4-10 to 3-13 on Sunday, and with both teams having the same scoring difference they understood that Louisburgh would finish top as they scored more points in championship.
The prize for top of the table is a home draw in this coming Sunday’s semi finals which take place at 11:00am.
Mayo LGFA issued both clubs with an email on Sunday detailing that first place would not be determined this way, and provided two options to resolve the issue:
Option A: A playoff game on Friday evening October 6 at 5:30pm.
Option B: Top of the table would be determined by the bonus ball in Monday’s Daily Millions Lotto.
The venue for option A would be determined by the bonus ball also.
Player welfare was brought into question as option A would result in players playing three games in the space of seven days, and two in less than 48 hours.
Louisburgh and MacHale Rovers, in the name of player welfare, reluctantly agreed to have last night’s bonus ball determine who would finish top of the group and gain home advantage in the semi final.
Louisburgh were assigned ODD numbers and MacHale Rovers EVEN numbers for the bonus ball result.
Number 22 came out as the bonus ball, and thus MacHale Rovers will have home advantage against Ballyhaunis on Sunday morning.
Moy Davitts welcome Louisburgh to Foxford with both throwing in at 11:00am.
