The success and progress of the Golf4Girls4Life Programme at Westport Golf Club is ongoing and a team of nine girls and parents have made their way to Chester, Shropshire, England for the 2023 Junior Clubs Home Nations National Final.
Here they compete against eleven other U18 Junior teams from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
Here’s the report from day one of the event:
Tough Day on the course but fantastic day’s learning about their own inner resilience and independent decision making for our young team.
The girls are in 12th place in the 12 team event but just 2-strokes behind Fereneze of Scotland and just 5 Strokes behind the team in 9th.
One bright note is that the leading girls player (gross) after Day 1 is Ellen Lonergan (Westport) and she has a 2-stroke lead to take into day 2.
Course conditions were very difficult for all competitors after torrential overnight rain.
Round 2 takes place at MacDonald Portal, 15km up the road from MacDonald Hill Valley. The 12 Teams will be split into three Matchplay flights after close of play tomorrow, Tuesday.
Matchplay shall then take place over two days, Wednesday and Thursday.
