Ballyhaunis Boxing Clubs Carlagh Peake entered the Esker all female international boxcup last weekend at 52kg. This tournament is the largest female competition in the world and with an entry of 360 boxers this year it did not disappoint. There were teams from as far afield as Canada, Italy, Sweden and England to name a few.
This was a very well run boxcup explained Carlagh’s coach and dad Martin Peake. The esker boxing club have been running this for as long as I can remember under the guidance of Ed Griffin and a wonderful team of coaches and staff.
Carlagh entered at 52kg on the Friday and had 3 in the weight. An Italian who was no less than celebrity in her own country as both a talented actress and a boxer. Carlagh boxed out of her skin for all 3 rounds and secured the win with the commentator saying she was one of the best boxers in the country. Carlagh advanced to the finals and took on a domestic opponent who she was more than familiar with making an easy fight of it and securing her place top of the podium. Carlagh was further called to ring and presented with a belt and was named best prospect of the entire tournament. An amazing achievement out of 360 boxers from 11 year old to elite level. Her dedicated team of coaches Martin Peake, Eoghan Lavin, Alannah nolan and Steve Taylor have worked hard with her over the last few weeks to bring out her best. Congratulations Carlagh.
