Lake District Athletic Club will officially open their new running track.
The event will be performed by Michael Ring TD on Saturday, October 29th at 2pm with the assistance of local councillors Michael Burke, Patsy O'Brien and Damien Ryan.
On the day, the club will have fun and games with our younger athletes and those hoping to try out different events from 1pm. The event is a big thank you to everyone who helped in any way to build the track which is located in The Green, Ballinrobe.
It will also highlight the help and support the club received from their main sponsors, corporate sponsors and patrons, without whose help the track would not be built.
The club was initially founded in 2011, starting out with just six athletes. Today, it has a membership of over 280 athletes from under 7 to senior athletes.
The club encompasses the entire Lake District region of North Galway and South Mayo.
Over the past eleven years, athletes from Lake District AC have won International, National, Provincial and County level titles in several disciplines.
This newly developed track will now bring our club to a new level. It is a facility for the club but also for the community at large and is available to schools, sports clubs, voluntary organisations and community groups. It is a safe environment for our children and an all-weather facility that enhances and compliments the great work already carried out by the Town Parks committee, Ballinrobe Soccer Club and Ballinrobe Rugby Club who also have their homes at 'The Green'.
On the day of the official opening, we will have local dignitaries, councillors and officials of Mayo County Council, our sponsors, patrons, athletes and their parents along with our many coaches who help make Lake District AC the success that it is.
