Mayo U14 Girls rounded off an unbelievable 5 days at UL to beat Waterford on penalties to win the Gaynor Cup and finish in 6th place out of the 25 teams taking part.
Mayo trailed 1-0 at half-time but Amy Murphy tied the game up 7 minutes from time. Full-time and extra time still couldn't separate the sides and into penalties we went.
A combination of nerves and top goalkeeping by both keeper's saw the score 1-1 after 5 penalties with Murphy scoring and Mayo keeper Aoife Meaney saving three spot-kicks. 4 more were taken in sudden death with Meaney saving 2 more and then scoring for Mayo to give them the Title.
Manager Michael Collins lauded everyone who helped make this possible - Mayo's 3rd Gaynor National Title in 3 years.
