The Mayo Women’s League is pleased to announce the next winner of our Foodie Save sponsored Volunteer of the Month award.
Our league is made up of so many different and diverse layers from all walks of life and we are attempting each month to honor those who go above and beyond in their passion for the beautiful game.
The recipient of this month’s award is a name which anyone who has been involved in the Mayo Women’s League will automatically associate with our League. Our very own Joe King (there’s no show like a Joe Show as the song goes!!)
Joe’s passion and determination is easily seen in how our league has grown over the past number of years and continues to grow on a near daily basis and Joe is a driving force behind this change and continues to be.
Speaking about Joe, Seán Treacy, Mayo Women’s League PRO said “I first got to know Joe in the summer of 2015 when I first got involved in Mayo football and from then an instant admiration of the man begun. Joe is a man who does not speak much in public but when he does it commands attention. Instantly you could see and sense his love of the beautiful game, his dedication to the promotion and enjoyment of women’s football in Mayo. Joe played his own role in guiding Manulla F.C ladies to FAI Shield and cup wins and I had the honor of coming back in the team bus when they won the Shield in 2016 and Joes face read like a book the pride in his team and his club was easily spotted. Joe and I have had our disagreements but they never lasted long and without him I would never have developed the same love of women’s football as I have today, two great Manulla men inspired it and continue to do so."
Diana Hopkins, Mayo Women’s League Treasurer also said “Joe King is a name which you automatically associate with Women’s soccer in Mayo. He is a driving force behind the running and development of girls & ladies soccer in Mayo. He started out as a coach in Manulla leading the ladies to many finals and winning titles. He has moved to Mayo Women's league where he implements the same drive and determination to help progress and develop the league to a high standard. He does invaluable work behind the scenes and the league would not run as well as it does without all his efforts. Joe truly deserves this months volunteer award for all the long hours and commitment that he puts into Ladies soccer in Mayo.
