There was some brilliant running and excellent medal success for Mayo AC by the club's nine representatives in the National 10k road running Championships in Dublin on Saturday morning last (April 9).
Four of the nine runners took home medals and the remaining five ran their hearts out also.
The individual medal winners were:
Colette Tuohy silver F50 category in 40:29,
Angela O’Connor gold F55 in 41:51,
Pauline Moran gold F65 in 44:25, and
Mags Glavey silver F70 in 47:17.
The other Mayo AC finishers were:
Andrew Hayes M40 37:29
Mike Griffin M45 39:30
Michael McNeela M45 44:21
Eamonn Joyce MS 39:09
Paula Donnellan F40 43:57
Colette Tuohy, Angela O’Connor and Pauline Moran combined to win silver in the o50 women's club team category.
Additionally Pauline Moran is the new F65 National 10k record holder. Her 44:25 time replaces clubmate Mags Glavey's 2016 effort of 46:25 .
That’s brilliant news all round for Mayo AC and follows their medal winning trip to Cork in February for the National Cross Country championships, when they took home two individual and two team medals.
Mayo AC were the top Connacht club at the 10k championships.
Other Connacht club results from the event included silver for the North Sligo AC o35 men’s team, and Jamie Fallon Craughwell AC finished second overall to win silver in senior men.
A couple of other Mayo masters athletes also had medal success in the race : Mary Browne running for Lucan AC ran 47:48 for second place in F60, and Majella Diskin of An Riocht AC finished second to Pauline Moran in F65 with 47:48. She was part of An Riocht’s silver medal winning F35 team!
All in all it was a richly deserved succesful day out for Mayo AC. Their nine representatives were early risers in order to make the 9am startline in the Phoenix Park. It was well worth the 500km round trip.
