Former Connacht Rugby player Tadhg Leader has signed a contract with a Canadian Football League team.

The Galway man has represented Ireland at U19 and U20 level and has two caps for the USA at senior level in rugby.

Leader has signed with a CFL side, the Hamilton Tiger-cats, where he will play as a placekicker and punter.

The Tiger-cats released a statement announcing Leader’s signing:

“Leader, 29, played five games in 2021 with the Aviators of The Spring League, converting four of six field goal attempts, six of seven convert attempts and had an average of 42.1 yards per punt.

Prior to making the switch to football, the 6-2, 205-pound native of Galway, Ireland was an established rugby player, and played in Major League Rugby for the San Diego Legion (2018), New England Free Jacks (2018-2021) and had a loan spell with the New Orleans Gold (2019).”

Leader’s younger brother, Darragh, also represented Connacht.
