Manulla win on penalties.

Manulla FC  have advanced to the final of the Connacht Football Association Women's Cup with a hard earned win away to a very impressive Corrib Celtic today. 

After one hundred and ten mins of football could not separate these two fine sides it took penalties to decide the outcome and it was Manulla who were the more clinical from twelve yards.

The first half was end to end stuff with both teams having their spells of dominance however they failed to trouble the scoreboard. 

The second half had barely got going when Manulla took the Lead.  Striker Aoife Brennan curled a free kick into the top corner to give the visitors the lead. On 20 mins the hosts levelled matters.

Again it was a free kick which totally deceived the Manulla goalkeeper and ended up in the net.

Two mins later Corrib took the lead and it was from another free kick.

The free kick was drilled into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Corrib were now in control and bossing matters all over the pitch. On 35 mins Manulla were awarded a free kick on the half way line.

Centre half Sinead Flannerys  dangerous delivery caused trouble in the Corrib defence and Aoife Brennan nipped in to level matters again.

Both sides created chances to win the game but had to settle for extra time.

Corrib were back in front two mins in to the first half but just before half time in extra time it was level again when Sadhbh Larkin powered a great effort to the net.

In the Second half more chances were created but the game went to Penalties. 

Stacey Freyne put Manulla one up and Corrib hit the Crossbar.

Lauren Mc Lellencooly slotted in the second penalty and Simona Fernandes saved Corribs second.

Aoife Brennan scored Manulla's third and the Corrib effort went over the bar.

A fantastic game of football played on a heavy pitch, both sides made light of the conditions and served up a rip roaring contest that was a great advertisement for the womens game.

Manulla will now face Castlebar Town F.C in what promises to be an exciting and thrilling Connacht football association Cup Final.
