Mayo athlete Maeve Gallagher is preparing for the National Cycling Championships in Wicklow this weekend on the back of winning two national titles inside the last fortnight in the sport of triathlon.
On September 18 she won the Sprint Distance National Championship title in a race held in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford, and just seven days later she won the Standard Olympic Distance National Championship race in Westport.
Both races were fiercely competitive, with over 500 participants in each one. That illustrates how fantastic an achievement it was for Swinford native Maeve, who recently turned 20 and is in her second year studying pharmacy in UCC.
Next up for Maeve is the National Cycling Championships this weekend in Wicklow followed by an European Elite Cup Triathlon race, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain, over the weekend of October 9th and 10th.
