Belmullet’s Sinead Diver will compete in the women’s marathon at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics tomorrow night (August 6) , running for her adopted Australia.

Now aged 44, Sinead only took up running in her mid-thirties after the birth of her two children. The race, which will take place in Sapporo, about 700 miles from Tokyo begins at 7am Saturday morning local time, or 11pm on Friday night Irish time.

She will be one of three marathon runners representing Australia in the race and will also be one of three Irish-born competitors in the event, with Fionnuala McCormack from Dublin–and Aoife Cooke from Youghal also set to take part in the 26.2 mile run.
