Mayo swimmer, Nicholas Quinn has lost out on his last chance to make the Tokyo Olympic qualification time.

The Castlebar man, who represented Ireland at the last Olympics in Rio de Janeiro Olympics, has had to isolate having been deemed a Covid-19 close contact case.

On his Twitter feed from Scotland, Nicholas released the following statement yesterday : “I’m gutted to say this but I won’t be competing at the last Olympics qualifiers in Dublin this week.

“Despite doing everything I could to keep the risk as low as possible, I’m unfortunately isolating due to being a close contact with a Covid case and it’s not considered safe me for me to travel and compete this weekend.

“It is disappointing and definitely not how I saw this Olympic season finishing for me. A big thanks to everyone who supported me on this Olympic journey.

“All the best to Swim Ireland swimmers and all the swimmers who have qualified for Tokyo, I will be supporting you.”
