The GAA and AFL have come to an agreement that will allow AFL clubs to recruit two ‘Category B’ Irish international rookies instead of one from now on.

Effectively AFL clubs can now recruit two Irish players at the same time without one having to be switched to Category A status which would impact on overall squad numbers.

Two Mayo players, Oisin Mullin and Frank Irwin, were due to fly out to Australia last April for a combine with a view to being signed by clubs thereafter.

Mullin has since gone on to win Young Footballer of the Year after an impressive debut season with Mayo and The Irish Independent reports that there is still interest in both himself and Irwin Down Under.
