Islandeady GAA has paid tribute to one of the club’s leading figures.
Tommie O’Brien, of Dooleague, Islandeady, passed away peacefully at his home after a long illness.
The club says Mr O’Brien represented Islandeady with distinction as a player, manager, and officer.
"Tommie's passion was football and he knew everything about the game", said the club in a statement on their Facebook page.
They say Tommie will be missed in and around the grounds of the pitch, and his soft voice and gentle ways will not be replaced.
Mr O'Brien is survived by his wife Nora, six children and extended family.
His remains are reposing at his home today for family and close friends, with removal tomorrow at 2.15 to arrive at St Patrick's Church, Islandeady for Mass of the Resurrection at 3 o'clock and burial afterwards in the local cemetery.
Due to HSE guidelines, the funeral Mass will be confined to family and close friends.
