The secretary of the Mayo Schoolboys/girls youth league has defended their decision not to run competitive leagues for “even age” groups.

A number of local clubs and parents have expressed their anger at the decision to cancel competitive action for under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-18 teams.

The proposed plans for this season is that only under-13, under-15 and under-17 leagues will run for boys and girls when action kicks off on July 20th.

David Breen who is secretary of the league says there is several reasons behind their decision.

He says it’s not a normal year as we are running into the winter which curtails the amount of light in the evenings and the protocols that comes from the FAI have to be adhered.

David Breen has told Midwest Sport today that they tried to do the best they could with what they were faced with and says there isn’t enough days in the week to fit everything in.
