The IRFU are targeting a return for rugby in August, with a series of games planned for the Irish provinces.

At a press briefing, the IRFU's Chief Executive Philip Browne says they are hopeful of staging a round of interprovincial games behind closed doors on the weekend of August 22nd and 23rd.

Meanwhile the IRFU are also set for a financial windfall of up to 30 million euro.

It comes after private equity group CVC bought a 28 percent stake in the Guinness PRO 14.

5 million of that total is set to be received up front.

Rugby officials have taken the first steps towards possibly revamping their global calendar.

The Six Nations and their Southern Hemisphere counterparts have released a joint statement, confirming they are in discussions over aligning both their annual competitions.

Earlier this month it was reported the Six Nations were open to the possibility of moving the competition back by a month to align themselves with the Rugby Championship.

Both parties have confirmed early discussions are taking place to bring greater clarity to both the club and international calendars.
