Mayo GAA are appealing for public donations to support a Ballycastle family who need to renovate their home to meet their child's needs.
The 'Roar for Ruairi' initiative is in support of Ruairi McDonnell, who was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease that has robbed him of his sight, ability to speak and much of his cognitive ability.
Unfortunately this will eventually lead to hearing loss, seizures and loss of muscle control over the next few years.
The six-year-olds Dad, Martin, played for Ballycastle, before transferring to Rathcoffey in Kildare and the two clubs had organised a “Legends” GAA match between Mayo and Kildare GAA Legends.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis this event and others had to be cancelled.
This appeal will look to raise money for the McDonnell family to make the necessary renovations to their home and to help with the ongoing home care costs for Ruairi.
It's called “Roar for Ruairi” because Ruairi loved super heroes and the hulk was his favourite.
The Mayo GAA referees are doing their bit for #roarforruairi on Saturday May 23rd & you can join them by doing a 4km walk\run\swin\cycle and donating to the cause.
