A Mayo Hurler has raised over €50,000 for charities after successfully completing a 42km hurling marathon in his back garden.

Tooreen Hurler Cathal Freeman ran the marathon whilst soloing his sliotar yesterday to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society and the HSE Staff for PPE during this current crisis.

The UL student set up a circuit with hurls in his back garden in Limerick and the event live streamed on Mayo GAA’s Facebook page.

The 29-year-old started the run at 11 o’clock yesterday morning and completed it by 7 in the evening.

He smashed his original target of €20,000 within hours of starting the marathon and you can still donate to his Go Fund Me page:
