Former Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr is backing Stephen Kenny to perform well in his new role.

The ex Dundalk boss has stepped up from the under-21 job to replace Mick McCarthy with immediate effect.

Kerr feels Kenny will bring "passion" and "enthusiasm" to the position and that he's "ready for the task" of getting the team ready for the Euro 2020 Playoffs.

Ireland are set to travel to Slovakia in the semi-finals later this year in what could be Kenny's first game in charge.
