The first round of the Valvoline National Forest Rally Championship kicked off in Carrick on Suir at the Willie Loughman Forest Rally yesterday.    

It was a good day for all Mayo crew with all cars finishing and some taking home silverware. 

Ed Muldoon and Mattie Murphy were close to taking second place in class 11F but had to settle for third place with just seventeen seconds separating them from second place, they were twenty fifth overall.

Class 16 Stephen Reynolds and John McCarthy took second place in class and twenty-sixth overall; Lorcan Moore and Paddy McCrudden finished third in class and thirty-eight overall.

In addition to success for the competitors, Deirdre Burke who is the Event Secretary for the Mayo Stages Rally 2020 was recently appointed as Registrar for the Valvoline National Forest Rally Championship and this was her first outing as Championship Registrar.  

Next up in the rallying calendar is the Birr Stages Rally which takes place next Sunday, with the Limerick Forest Rally taking place on Sunday 1st March. 

The highlight of the year for Mayo and District Motorsport Club members will be the 8th March when the Mayo Stages Rally takes place in the Castlebar/Westport area.
