Mayo ladies manager Peter Leahy is calling on the LGFA -Ladies Gaelic Football Association - to protect the national league, by introducing a rule on player eligibility for those also playing Aussie Rules.

Mayo has lost four top players to the AFLW ahead of this weekend's National Football League opener against Donegal in Swinford.

Sarah Rowe, sisters Grace and Niamh Kelly and Aileen Gilroy are among 18 Irish stars who will miss this year's National Football League because they're playing in the AFLW, which also starts this weekend.

It finishes in mid-April, allowing Irish players to return home in time for championship football, but Peter Leahy believes they should not be allowed to play for their home county, if they've started the season elsewhere.....
