Mayo's Aileen Gilroy signs for The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos for the 2020 AFLW season.

The 27-year-old St Brigids player was identified through the club’s scouting networks.

Gilroy has been a feature of the Mayo Women’s Gaelic Team for some years, having previously been vice captain of the side, culminating in selection for the All-Star Team in midfield back in 2017.

The Mayo player recovered from a leg injury this year and impressed in the Mayo Ladies' narrow All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Galway.

“From the first time we were able to watch her play, Aileen’s power, speed, and ability to break the lines off half-back and through the midfield were hard to ignore,” said North AFLW recruiting manager Rhys Harwood.

“Aileen has been a top-level athlete in Ireland for a significant period of time.

“Her experience and professionalism will add to our group both on and off the field, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her at North Melbourne.”

North will take five selections into the AFLW National Draft in October.
