Former Mayo minor manager Michael (Mick) Burke has passed away.

Mr Burke of Drumminwonagh, Westport and formerly of Tourmakeady, was manager of the team which won the All-Ireland title in 1985.

According to the Connaught Telegraphy he also coached Burrishoole GAA Club for many years and trained the Mayo VEC senior squad to an All-Ireland crown in 1972.

He also served as selector of the Mayo senior squad for a period.

During his own playing career, he featured for his native Tourmakeady, winning a West Mayo Junior title in 1972 and an All-Ireland Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta medal the following year. He also played with Kilmeena for eight years and in 1986 was part of the management team that won a county title with the club.

A teacher by profession, he was a former member of the staff of Davitt College, Castlebar, and Kiltimagh Vocational School.
