Two Mayo AC runners headlined a successful Bank Holiday weekend for the club in events around the country.
John Higgins from Carracastle crossed the line in an excellent 6th place in the Derry Walled City Marathon on Sunday June 2. He finished in a great time 2:52.15. The race winner was Kenyan Eric Koech in 2:34.19.
Norah Newcombe Pieterse from Ballina ran a brilliant time of 37:05 in the Vhi Women's 10k in Dublin. She finished in an excellent 8th place. Two other Mayo AC runners competed - Angela McVann came home in 50:14, and Maria Kneafsey (club secretary) finished in 52:46.
The 10k winner was Aoibhe Richardson (Kilkenny Harriers AC) in 34:35. Her mother Niamh (Murphy) - a Westport native - finished in 40:23 and was 3rd o50. Ballycroy native Maura Ginty (Sportsworld AC) who ran alongside her for much of the way also finished in 40:23.
Edel Reilly from.Hollymount is in great form in local races this season and she came home in 27th place in 39:39.
In the Cork City Marathon on Bank Holiday Sunday Stephen Skillington came home in 4:43:46, and in the Tribal 5k in Galway Mags Connell 25:37, and Eileen Crowley 26:47 were the two Mayo AC finishers.
