Galway hurling  manager  Míchéal Donoghue has been handed another injury headache ahead of next month's Leinster senior hurling championship, after attacker Conor Cooney limped out of club action yesterday with an ankle injury.

The All-Star winner fell when coming down from a high ball as St Thomas' suffered a 1-17 to 0-14 defeat to Liam Mellows in the opening round of the Galway senior hurling championship in Loughrea at the weekend.

It's unclear how long the 26-year old is facing on the sidelines.

This comes following news that Joe Canning will miss the entire provincial series after undergoing groin surgery.
