Tullaghan Bay Rowing Club took part in the Irish Indoor Rowing Championships At the Sports Arena University of Limerick yesterday.
These were All Ireland Championship finals and a follow up to the IIRC Provinces Competition in November. Clubs from all over Ireland competed and the competition is compulsory for athletes who wish to represent Ireland internationally. Jonathon Doocey took bronze in the Male Junior 18 - 500 m sprint. Fiachna Barrett won silver in the Male Junior 16 - 500m sprint. Niamh Egan won Gold in the Women’s Junior 15 category and she then went on to win two further gold medals with her teammates In the Women’s Year 3 and Year 4 competition. Year 3 Women’s 2000m relay winners were Catherine Smyth, Leah Gaughan Aimee Carey and Niamh Egan.
In the Year 4 Women’s 2000m relay Alannagh Cosgrove, Tara Doocey, Aoife Egan and Niamh Egan came out on top, both teams retaining their positions as best in the country at those categories. This concludes the Indoor Rowing Season for this club who became involved with Indoor Rowing In 2018. The club have previously rowed with Naomh Michael Rowing Club and yesterday joined forces with Sligo Rowing Club In Junior Girls Year 1.
