We have treasured memories of calling into the shop to enjoy many a conversation with both herself and Michael.
May she now enjoy the peace of heaven.
One of my favourite radio moments, involved Mary in a radio interview with Ray D'Arcy. It was around the time the Syrians arrival in Ballaghaderreen was announced. She had featured on RTÉ News and this led to the interview. I listened back and wrote down what she said.
“We were reared in the Christian Tradition, the Christian Tradition is getting a kicking but there are many, many people in Ireland who still uphold those old values; that when somebody was hungry you tried to feed them,
somebody had no shelter, the Vincent de Paul – it all stemmed from that. We can’t forget all that” ….
Ray interjected: “That’s humanity, really …. the Christian tradition doesn’t have a monopoly on that ..”
Mary came back “It perfects it, it brought it to a finer place but we won’t go down that road”
Wisdom and sincerity had their moment ..... well done Mary.
Sympathies to her family and many friends.
Thug Dia duinn I
Rug Dia uainn I.
We will all miss Mary’s presence but she’ll be with us in spirit. Rest in Peace Mary
May she rest in peace.
My sincere sympathy to All of Dear Mary’s family.
