The new Static Speed Safety Camera systems in place on the N17 in Mayo and N59 in Galway, will go operational tomorrow, Friday 13th December.

Vehicles detected driving in excess of the 100km/h posted speed limit will be subject to prosecution from tomorrow.

Prosecution of speeding offences take place by Fixed Charge Notice. 

The current Fixed Charge Notice is €160 fine accompanied by 3 penalty points. 

The camera on the N17 will be located at Ballinsmaula just outside Claremorris while the camera on the N59 is placed at Aubwee in Galway between Moycullen and Galway city.

This follows on from the cameras previously installed on the N3 in Cavan and N5 at Swinford and will operate in a similar manner.
