Castlebar Tidy Towns is celebrating its achievement in the recent National Tidy Towns Competition, earning its sixth consecutive Gold Medal and increasing its score by ten points to a total of 374.

Castlebar now stands among the top towns in Ireland, one of only 78 communities out of 904 entrants to receive Gold Medal status.

Alan Mee, Chairman of Castlebar Tidy Towns, expressed his pride in the community’s accomplishment, saying, “We are delighted with this result, which reflects the incredible commitment of everyone involved.” Special thanks were extended to partners Mayo County Council, all voluntary groups, local media, and state agencies who played essential roles in this success.

The competition evaluates towns across eight pillars, including Community Involvement; Streetscape and Public Places; Green Spaces and Landscaping; Nature & Biodiversity; Sustainability; Tidiness and Litter Control; Residential Streets and Housing Areas; and Approach Roads, Streets, and Lanes. Castlebar’s adjudication report offered high praise across these areas, while also identifying areas for future growth, which the committee is committed to addressing.

Alan also expressed deep gratitude to Castlebar’s dedicated volunteers, including local residents and International Protection Applicants, for their ongoing support. Acknowledgments were also given to the business community, schools, community groups, sports clubs, residents’ associations, and housing estates for their continued contributions.

Castlebar Tidy Towns extends congratulations to other Mayo towns that excelled in the competition, including Westport, Mulranny, and Belmullet, who also received Gold Medals, as well as Balla, Cong, Ballina, and Lecanvey, who were recognised at the recent awards in Croke Park.
