A grocery store which currently operates in Castlebar has announced that it will close next month.
The Habit Store, which is a minimal waste shop aimed at reducing consumers’ single use plastic and packaging, will close its doors for the final time on Saturday September 21.
In a post on Facebook earlier this week, store management announced the following:
“We had an idea four years ago during the pandemic to start a market stall in town offering people a way to shop package free.
“We had no big plans or expectation of where it would lead, yet within six months we were getting the keys for our gorgeous little store, which we have poured our hearts and souls into.
“As some of you know, myself and Alex returned back to London almost a year ago leaving our baby in the very capable and knowledgeable hands of Kevin.
“We are so grateful for Kevin’s passion, commitment and dedication to The Habit Store while we balanced managing the store alongside our full-time jobs in London.
“Now at the end of three wonderful years in the shop we have made the tough decision to not renew the lease for another term so we can have a little more life balance.
“We are sad, but also overall pretty chuffed, that we traded for four wonderful years.
“We know we have made an impact on waste reduction in Mayo and hope that our closure will not stop all of you leading a more earth conscious way of living.
“We have hosted many events, workshops, meetups, hikes and had a few late night sing alongs - making friends for life.
“We want to thank everyone who has shopped with us, liked our posts or told their friends.
“The loyal support we have received since day one has been an incredible experience that we will never forget.
“Love Rosie and Alex.”
