Sligo councillor Edel McSharry has been officially selected as Fianna Fáil’s candidate for the upcoming General Election in the Sligo/ Leitrim constituency.

This announcement from Fianna Fáil comes following the party’s constituency convention at the Southern Hotel on Wednesday evening.

Cllr McSharry was a first time runner in the Local Elections earlier this summer, where she achieved over 1,300 first preference votes in the Sligo Drumcliffe Electoral Area.

She was elected to Sligo County Council following the fourth count.

Edel McSharry is the niece of former Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Ray McSharry.

Following the announcement, cllr McSharry said that she is “delighted and honoured to be nominated”, and promises to be a strong voice for the constituency.
