There’s a need for single mothers with children in the Direct Provision system to secure an exemption regarding relocation .
That’s the view of Head of Programmes at ActionAid Ireland , Grainne Kilcullen.
The International charity has condemned as “scandalous” that some lone parents in Direct Provision in Mayo this week received letters telling them that they will be moved to a new location by mid-September.
Days before the start of the new school year, one lone parent with school going children, living in Direct Provision in Ballyhaunis for a decade has been informed that she and her family will be relocated to a Direct Provision centre in Ballina.
The charity says distressed parents are faced with finding new school places and special needs assistants for their children, days ahead of the new academic year.
