A man remains in Garda custody this morning following an incident in Ballina last night.
Shortly after 6 p.m. yesterday, Gardaí responded to an incident of criminal damage at a premises in Ballina town.
Following this, an adult male barricaded himself inside his family residence in Ballina.
An Garda Síochána initiated its Operational Command protocol, appointing an On-Scene Commander.
Local Garda negotiators from the National Negotiators Unit, along with several other Garda units, attended the scene. A cordon was put in place.
After negotiations, the incident was peacefully resolved shortly before 11:30 p.m.
The male, aged in his 30’s, arrested and detained in connection with this incident, was arrested under mental health legislation.
Investigations are ongoing.
