The number of people trying to enter Ireland at airports with false or missing documents has fallen by up to 40 percent.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee's making the claim as she increases the fines on airlines which allow someone to board a plane to enter the State without proper documentation.
It's the latest effort by the government to tackle the issue of immigration.
