The Minister for Justice Helen McEntee plans to ban the wearing of masks at protests to discourage intimidation.
Helen McEntee said she wants to introduce the ban in light of violent protests and disorder targeting buildings designed for asylum seekers.
The ban will also effect protestors gathering at the homes of politicians - Taoiseach Simon Harris's home was targeted recently.
Journalist David McMahon with The Journal says if the legislation is passed, Gardaí will be able to direct protestors to take off their mask.
