The three outgoing Belmullet representatives on Mayo County Council all retained their seats yesterday.

First to be re-elected was Achill's Paul McNamara, Fianna Fáil, following the fourth count.

He was joined by Fine Gael's Gerry Coyle who also exceeded the quota.

There was an interesting race for the final seat as Sinn Féin's Rosaleen Dixon Lally pushed Sean Carey FF all the way.

Carey retained his seat after the fifth count.
