To mark 25 years of twinning between Ballina and Pittsfield, Massachusetts, USA, a certificate of Sister Cities International was formally presented to the Cathaoirleach of Ballina, councillor Seamus Weir, earlier this week.

The ceremony took place in the Ballina Municipal District offices and Anne Gagnon from Pittsfield and local Ballina man Willie Nolan were both present.

The twinning of the Mayo town with the US city was established back in 1998 and many cultural and sporting links have been fostered over the last quarter of a century.

Sister Cities International Certification was founded by US President Dwight D. Eisenhower, in the aftermath of World War two.
