A potential site for a new school premises for Educate Together in Castlebar has been identified in Castlebar town centre.
Following a packed public meeting last week on the urgent need for a new school building for the 142 pupils now enrolled in Educate Together in the county town, parents and teachers are insisting that the Minister for Education Norma Foley deliver on her promise three years ago to provide such a facility in Mayo’s county town.
The Leas-Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, local Fianna Fail councillor Martin McLoughlin, who attended the public meeting, says the site of the former hat factory in the town is for sale and he is urging Minister Foley to ensure that the Department of Education purchases the site for the long needed school, at present operating from three separate campuses in the town.
